In New York State the ELA exam has become a focal point of language arts instructions in grades three through eight classrooms. The results are often used for student placement in successive classes or as a qualifying point for acceptance to middle school or high school programs. Many children benefit from individual tutoring for the test, from which they can learn how plan for the essay, thereby reducing test anxiety that more of them are experiencing.

Many children, from elementary school through high school, have difficulty putting their thoughts on paper. With the right kind of support, whether writing a personal narrative, a research paper, or a response to literature, they can be taught to organize and write an effective paragraph, essay, or report.  Being a proficient writer is a necessity for success in almost every subject throughout the grades and into college and graduate school
